Londinium rehearses in the City of London and performs 4 or 5 concerts a year. Currently most rehearsals are at St Mary-le-Bow church, Cheapside, EC2V 6AU. We work on a "project" basis, typically rehearsals run for 4 weeks before each concert, usually on Tuesday evenings (7.30pm - 9.30pm) plus two Saturdays (10.30am - 4.30pm). We occasionally provide singers for a fee in order to raise additional funds.
Given the varying numbers required for different programmes and events, and that we are all busy people who may have other commitments at any given time, singers are drawn from a "pool", and there may be occasions when the conductor will not be able to invite all those who have said they are available for a particular event.
Every attempt is made to be as fair as possible, and the aim is to give all singers the maximum opportunity to sing. Entry to the "pool" is by audition, at which you will be asked to sing your own choice of prepared piece as well as do a simple sight-reading test.
Inevitably we have to ask for a contribution towards overheads, generally in the region of £30 - £40 per concert including music costs. We are more than happy to discuss, in confidence, a reduction with anybody for whom this is difficult, and in that case please speak to the Treasurer.
The short rehearsal schedules mean singers are expected to work on their parts between rehearsals, so as to keep the rehearsal time spent on note-learning to the minimum, and to attend all rehearsals if at all possible. It's not all hard work, however, we're a friendly crowd who normally relax after rehearsals in our "local": The Watling.
