Formed in 2005 and based in the City of London, Londinium is a chamber choir of experienced singers who seek in performance to communicate the true emotion of the music through an emphasis on musical and textual interpretation. Although our focus is on the Renaissance and the Baroque, repertoire is drawn from all periods and includes both contemporary and lesser-known works.
With between 20 and 30 performers drawn from our pool of singers, Londinium gives four or five concerts a year under our newly-appointed Musical Director Madeleine Lovell. We usually rehearse and perform in London's beautiful City churches, and regularly undertake other engagements. We are always on the look out for like-minded talented and experienced amateur singers, and if you would like to join please apply for an audition..
Londinium will next appear at The Crypt, St Pancras Parish Church on Friday 8 August 2008, where we will perform extracts from Victoria's Tenebrae Responsories to mark the opening evening of 58 Processions, a sound installation by the artist and sound recordist Duncan Whitley and composer and sound artist James Wyness, based on the Holy Week processions in Seville. Tickets for this event must be booked in advance through the Measure website. Places are limited and they will be issued on a first come basis. The event is pay what you wish on the door.
Forthcoming concerts include Tu es Petrus (24 October) and Messiah (13 December) followed by In praise of women and Around the world in 80 minutes and the long-term cycle The seven deadly sins starting in autumn 2009 with the tantalising theme of Lust.
